Rethinking the Online Shopping Experience
How genXarc approached genXshop as a product-discovery experience rather than a conventional storefront.
The problem
Traditional online shopping experiences often follow a familiar pattern: search, product listing, product page, cart, checkout. That works, but it can make shopping feel purely transactional. genXarc set out to explore a different question: what if discovering products was part of the experience itself, rather than a hurdle before checkout?
The solution
genXarc built genXshop around three ideas: discover, personalise, and bundle — helping shoppers explore products rather than requiring them to know exactly what they want before they begin, shaping the experience around individual preferences and shopping intent rather than one catalogue for everyone, and letting related products be considered together instead of purely independently. The underlying approach favours product thinking over storefront thinking: instead of starting with "how do we build an ecommerce website?", genXshop starts with "how can we make the shopping experience better?" — and that distinction shapes how the product is designed.
What we built
- A discovery-first browsing experience, rather than a conventional search-and-listing flow
- Personalisation shaped around individual shopping intent
- Product bundling, so related products can be considered together
The result
genXshop represents genXarc's exploration of alternative approaches to online commerce and product discovery — an example of applying product thinking to a familiar category rather than treating it as a solved problem.
